FREE Community Event – Shellharbour
Join Elossa Fitness as we welcome Tania Aleckson as she presents on healthy hearing. This event is open to members and non-members.
Why is healthy hearing important?
From lively conversations at family dinners to hearing the first cicadas of summer, hearing is important. It keeps us connected to the people and life we love. However, people often neglect their hearing and forget to keep an eye on it. In fact:
- One in six Australians have some form of hearing loss
- Hearing loss is projected to rise to one in five Australians by 2060, almost 65 percent of them being men
- Left untreated, hearing loss can cause frustration, isolation, fatigue, social withdrawal, cognitive decline and poor mental and overall wellbeing
- The most significant cause of hearing loss is exposure to loud sound and ageing
- It takes an average of seven to ten years from the onset of hearing loss for people to seek help
Tania will present to us on the importance of hearing health, impact to risk of falls, how to look after your hearing and when to seek help.
Tania Aleckson is the Senior Community Hearing Advisor with Hearing Australia Illawarra and Shoalhaven. She is an Illawarra local growing up in the Shellharbour area and now raising her teenage daughters here too. She has been working for hearing Australia for almost 8 years and loves her role because no two days are the same. To keep fit she is a part time Stand up Paddleboard instructor with SUP Shellharbour. She loves the sun, salt water and teaching people of all ages and abilities how to SUP safely.
